Humble Games shutting down — The gaming landscape has yet again been in quite a pinch as IGN shut down Humble Games in part of an “undergoing restructuring”. Unlike normal restructuring, however, this time the entire team is being let go by Humble Bundle.
The company claims that this decision is necessary to ensure “the stability and support of our developers and ongoing projects” and “the restructuring of operations at Humble Games will have no impact on operations at Humble Bundle.”
The said statement can be found on the official Humble Games Twitter page where it received mixed responses with some of them expressing their disappointment as the team and developers weren’t made aware of the sudden decision until the very last minute.
This refers to the now ex-Humble Games employee saying: “At 9AM this morning, all 36 employees of Humble Games were told that we were being let go and that the company is shutting down.” Another employee also expresses: “The game industry is volatile, it’s been inundated by people who only want exponential growth at the expense of making great games with great teams.”
They then continued: “Billionaires and CEOs are making record profits at the expense of the employees”. One other Humble Games Chris Radley
Both Humble Games and Humble Bundle are owned by Ziff Davis which also owns several gaming websites such as IGN, Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun. Humble Games was first initiated in 2017 and has published a total of 38 game titles across several platforms with one of them being A Hat in Time.
Bottom line
The Humble Game is shutting down despite the company’s claims that it only underwent some restructuring to keep floating. However, several ex-employees openly expressed that those were just blanket statements to mitigate the damage made by its parent company Ziff Davis.
In reality, the entire operations for Humble Games have been halted and dissolved with all employees suddenly being let go within the same day without any early notice.
