Make your piloting dream a reality with the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS 2020). From the same studio that brings Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration, the 2020 edition of MSFS offers improved aerodynamics, real-time weather and air traffic and many more.
In celebrating the 40th anniversary of this franchise, the Microsoft Flight Simulator download now includes 4 classic commercial airports, 10 glider airports, 12 new aircraft, 14 heliports, and 20 classic missions from the franchise’s past. The MSFS: 40th Anniversary edition comes with three purchasable package options; namely the standard edition, deluxe edition, and premium deluxe edition.
Before the 40th anniversary update, the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 already offers a total of 40 handcrafted, particularly accurately implemented airports scattered across the globe from North America to South America, then Europe, Asia, Africa, all the way to Australia. If it doesn’t sound a lot, the key feature of MSFS 2020 is that the game is able to generate up to 37,000 procedurally generated airports and fly over two million cities.
MSFS also offers a diverse amount of aeroplane classes for you that you can pilot around. An airliner, jets, lots of propellers, and turboprops from various remarkable manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and Cessna.
The game also supports modding addons which means that even more aeroplanes and even airports are available to accompany your journey in this one-of-a-kind simulator. One of which that the community has been demanding is the flight simulator Airbus A330 for MSFS.
For the longest time, the MSFS 2020 community has been waiting for this A330, which is the bigger brother of the ubiquitous A320 series. The plane is designed for long-distance (or short-haul large capacity) flights which is why it became a common sight at most airports.
The A330, even though it is not the most modern aircraft, it still has all the characteristics of its smaller siblings. They are highly integrated and automated aircraft where the pilot is often just monitoring the complex systems.
The community has been left waiting for this aircraft to be out in public, particularly the Aerosoft A330 MSFS however after more than 3 years, Aerosoft has yet to release its take on A330 to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. So far, Aerosoft has only released the A330 exclusively to Prepar3D, a simulator that is tuned to be able to be used as a real visual simulation training platform including a real piloting simulation experience.
As an alternative, the modding team Project Mega Pack, have released its take on the Airbus A330 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 for free which is available on their website. The aeroplane features:
- Fully custom, built-from-scratch A330-300 model with fully custom PBR-based textures
- Semi-custom cockpit including custom windows, throttles, engine starters, lighting, MCDU changes, and buttons, bringing the default A320neo cockpit closer to that of the A330-300
- Custom RR 700 engines and sounds provided by ftsim+
- Near-to-life flight dimensions and characteristics
- Tire smoke, Engine/APU heat effects
- Included passenger and freight variants
While some might think that it might not bring a far more realistic experience to the unreleased Aerosoft counterpart, do note that the team Project Mega Pack provides its aeroplanes for free for everyone to download. Therefore, a realistic expectation might be necessary before trying out PMP’s Airbus A330.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 40th Anniversary Edition is available for download on the Microsoft Flight Simulator Steam website. It is also available through the Microsoft store page.
