Gigabyte Leaks More Info on RTX 4070 and 4060

The upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 has been pretty much confirmed to be available on the shelves starting on 13 April 2023 according to the handful of rumors so far.

However, another development came directly from Gigabyte that confirms the RTX 4070 will be shipped with 12GB VRAM and 8GB for the RTX 4060.

This leak was first spotted by VideoCardz through Gigabyte’s software, the Gigabyte Control Center. The company’s main app for customizing their graphics cards and motherboards.

As seen in the capture above, the latest version of the software (23.03.02.01) includes the unannounced SKU support for the Gigabyte’s RTX lineups Gigabyte RTX 4070 AERO OC 12GB (GV-N4070AERO OC-12G) and Gigabyte RTX 4060 GAMING OC 8GB (GV-N4060GAMING OC-8GD).

This information would be the first confirmed leak directly from the board manufacturer.

From this leak, we can positively confirm that the RTX 4070 will come with 12GB VRAM configuration and the RTX 4060 will be packed with 8GB VRAMー which is a bit of an unfortunate downgrade considering back in January 2021 NVIDIA releases the RTX 3060 with 12GB VRAM configuration.

Considering that recent games such as Hogwarts Legacy have received a handful of reports from their player base showing that they are struggling with the game performance even with 8GB of VRAM, it seems to be a bit of an unfortunate decision for NVIDIA in shipping the 4060 with only 8GB model.

However, we have yet to be able to put any verdict on that as the product itself has not officially been released yet, thus perhaps there is still a place for the benefit of the doubt.

In conclusion, we can conclude that the upcoming RTX 4070 will be shipped in a 12GB model and 8GB for the RTX 4060.

While the RTX 4070 specs have been expected, the RTX 4060 seemed to be a downgrade from the previous generation as it only shipped with 8GB of VRAM, which might cause a future-proofing issue when newer games come out.
