The RTX 4070 has been a hot topic for quite some time right now. Rumour about specs, release dates, and pricing has scattered across the internet.
The GPU is rumored to be released on 13 April 2023 and with an MSRP price of $749ー just $50 less than the RTX 4070 Ti.
Specs-wise, it is also expected that the RTX 4070 should perform competitively between the earlier generation RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti.
Is the release date rumor true?
This rumor was first spread on 11 March 2023 by Twitter user @hongxing2020, who has a good track record in guessing the release date for the RTX 30 and 40 series so far.
Another rumor that further points out that the RTX 4070 might actually be released on 13 April 2023 is from the GeForce GTX 4070 Embargo leak.
According to the leaked embargo timeline spreadsheet, we should see the RTX 4070 to be first announced on 12 April 2023 followed by the review embargo that got split between 12 April and 13 April as well as the release of the product.
The split reviews hint that there might be 2 versions of RTX 4070 with 2 different MSRP. This is likely to be the reference card version and the “custom” third-party version.
According to Moore’s Law is Dead, the $749 MSRP might be only for the reference card version and its “custom” third-party version will likely sit in the $800 tag.
This price approach might be a bit too less competitive as it does not give a good price to performance value. This is because the MSRP for the RTX 3080 was set at $699 during its release and considering the performance for the RTX 4070 will be around the 3080 to 3080 Ti level, it does not bring a good value.
To sum it up,
The RTX 4070 is rumored to be available for purchase on 13 April 2023 with reviews that can be seen on 12 April 2023 and 13 April 2023 for its custom version.
The MSRP for the reference model will be at $749 and $799 for its custom third-party models. In AUD this means that it will cost around $1118 to $1192. An uninteresting price to performance value as the RTX 3080 MSRP was set at $699 USD.
